Beatbox, a.k.a. vocal percussion, happens when one performer generates the sounds of an entire band, a D.J. with turntables, a city street, or the sounds of the television.
As turntablists have introduced a great variety of musical genres into the musical experience, live bands have had a hard time keeping up with the sonic spectrum available through state of the art machines. Yuri, with human lips alone, reclaims sonic variety from technical equipment and can match a d.j.'s variety through live performance.
In San Francisco, he performs regularly in improv/theater variety shows; at theater spaces and coffee shops; and with bands at clubs.
